How does the Buy X Get Y discount work for different collections?

I didn't know where to post this or if this has been answered but I have a problem. 

I have created a Buy X Get Y code where someone buys 2 items and get 2 items for 15% off. 

I have selected 2 collections for both Buy and Get. 

Does it work that 2 items have to be bought from both collection or 2 items from any collection?

And does Shopify add the discount to both collection or just any collection as long as the discount has been applied to 2 products?

Thank you for getting in touch and for detailing your issue.

When you select the collections that contain products customers can receive a 15% discount on, you are just stating which collections are eligible. This does not mean the customer can only get 15% off of one item from Collection A and 15% off of one item from Collection B - rather, the customer will get a 15% discount off of any two items from Collection A or B. This might be two units of a single item from one collection, or a unit each of two products from Collection A, etc. 

In the situation you have described, the discount will only be applied to two products from either Collection A or B (providing they have met the conditions you have set to earn the discount). If in the same order they were to add another product to their cart from Collection C, in which the products are not eligible for the discount, then no discount would be applied to this product.

You can test all of this yourself by adding products that meet the discount to your cart to see how it works, and you can try out different combinations. If whilst doing this you see any errors, or if the discount is seemingly being applied incorrectly, let us know and we can check this in more detail for you!

When I try to do my do my discount on the check out, it says my discount code isn't valid for the items in my cart. 

This is the summary of the discount. And the conditions I have set to be able to use it.

The image above is the summary of the discount and the condition I have set.

This is what the customer will get when they insert the code

The image above is what they get as a return. The discount is 15%.

Thank you for sharing those screenshots. On an initial view the conditions for the discount look to be set correctly, so I am not sure why you'd be getting an error with the discount at checkout. I will need to take a closer look at this so I can troubleshoot more effectively. Hi Victor,

I have the same issue. I added a code MORE IS MORE, when customers buy 3 stacking rings they get 10%. It says MORE IS MORE discount code isn’t valid for the items in your cart.

Could you please help me as well.
