How to add a gift message option if there's no cart in theme settings?

Hello!

I am trying to add a "add a gift message" option to my shop and all the solutions I found suggest that I go into customize > theme settings > cart and then press enable notes. I, however do not seem to have a cart section in my theme settings. I've attached a picture below of the options that I seem to have:

Welcome to the Shopify Community, thanks for posting!

 

Each theme is different, however, the cart page is generally located by selecting the drop down menu at the top of the theme editor. 

  1. From your Shopify Admin select Online Store
  2. Click on Customize
  3. Select the drop down menu that says Home Page
  4. Select Cart
  5. Enable Notes 

     

From here you can use the Language Editor to edit the text from the default message to "Add a Gift Message" 

  1. From your Shopify Admin Select Online Store
  2. Select Actions > Edit Languages
  3. Search for the default message for cart notes and adjust to your liking.

 

In the meantime I would love to hear more about your business to see how else we can assist. Are you selling products that are often given as gifts? If so, there are a ton of apps in the Shopify App Store that might interest you. For example: Super Gift Options. This app allows your customers to not online leave a gift message, but also purchase gift wrapping at the cart page!

Hi Skye, 

Thank you for your help, but when I press the cart option from the drop down at the top, no "enable notes" option shows up to me like I've seen for others. Example image below:

I took a deep dive into this particular theme, and the cart notes is hiding! To find them, there is one more step.

  1. From your Shopify Admin select Online Store
  2. Click on Customize
  3. Select the drop down menu that says Home Page
  4. Select Cart
  5. Select Subtotal
  6. Enable Notes

I have the same problem with having no "cart" option in the theme settings. I am also on the Dawn theme so I'm not sure why some people have this and some don't on the same default theme. I tried going to the "subtotal" section like you suggested, but it says "No customizable settings available." so I'm still at a loss on how to add cart notes
