How to add order tag info to the order confirmation email

Hi there, 

We are using a shipping app that is adding the delivery date picked from a calendar to the order as an order tag. How can we add this date to the order confirmation email? I tried just adding {tags} but that comes through as text so I think it needs some extra info.
