How to change the primary domain of an online store?

Hi All,

I want to change the domain name for the Shopify store from www.abcd.com to www.xyzk.com. 

I will add www.xyzk.com to my list of domains and make it my primary domain. 

Do I need to redirect all my blogs and website pages to the new domain by adding URL redirects for all the URLs on the old domain, or will Shopify take care of the redirection?

Simply adding another domain and changing your primary domain name will not impact your existing pages or store links. URL re-directs start to come into play when previous links are broken or cannot be found.

If you plan to keep both domains connected to your account until your store's SEO (search engine optimization) updates, Shopify will easily be able to send consumers to the correct link. Foreseeable issues can arise if you disconnect the other domain entirely before your SEO has had the chance to catch up, or worse yet it was associated with another store.

P.S. Don't forget to notify your customers of the change beforehand to avoid any surprises!
