How to correctly set up DNS settings for a subdomain?

Hello,

I have set a 'store' A record on my third party DNS registrar (GoDaddy) and the site resolves correctly but I see a warning that the domain record does not have a CNAME associated with it.

The name is store.mydomainname.com, if I try to add a CNAME for 'store' it warns me that it conflicts with the A record.  I would like to know what is the correct way to set this up.

Thank you!

Hello, @alitardo.

Thank you for reaching out and posting this question!

I understand that you're looking to add a subdomain to your Shopify store. The CNAME record for Shopify is shops.myshopify.com. If you need further assistance with this, then we've got a step-by-step guide on that here: Connecting a third-party subdomain to Shopify

I noticed that you're a new member of our Shopify Community! I'd love to hear more about your business and share some resources to help you get started. What types of products are you selling? Do you have a marketing plan prepared for your store?

Hi Elias,

Thanks for your quick reply. I mainly needed to know if I could leave the
A record instead of a CNAME on my third party DNS as it seems to work
correctly as well.

Regarding your question, awakentheworld.com provides films and content for
the awakening of human consciousness, we would also like to offer some
merchandise through the Printful POD platform to support our non-profit
initiative. I have tested linking Printful to the shopify store and I see
that it works well.

Our plan is to link this Shopify store to our YouTube channel, which gets a
lot of traffic. This is the focus of our marketing plan for now.

I have a couple of additional questions:
The center and business address is in Canada, can we offer the products to
be paid in US dollars? Could you point me in the right direction?

Also, all of our digital assets (movies, meditations and music) are
downloadable via dropbox and I installed the digital-downloads.com plugin
to include a link to the downloads, I wonder if this is the preferred way
to sell digital products.

I would appreciate your comments, Elias.

Deep peace,
Alex

Hi, @alitardo.

Thank you for following up!

If you're using Shopify Payments, then you can sell and get paid in different currencies. However, if you're using a third-party gateway, then you may need to change your store currency as each store can only have one default currency. If your store has already made a sale, then you'll need to get in touch with us via the Shopify Help Center in order to change the store currency.

I'm not too sure what the plugin is from digital-downloads.com. However, it's important to note that their plugin sounds similar to our free app, and it doesn't look like they have an app in our Shopify App Store. Instead, we'd recommend using the Digital Downloads app made by Shopify and we've also got a guide on using our app here: Digital Downloads.

If you have any other questions, then don't hesitate to let me know!

Thanks Elias!

We sell digital downloads using our dropbox repository, these files are too
big to move them from one place to another and I understand the free
version only works with files that are uploaded into Shopify.
It's that so?

Thanks!

Hey, @alitardo.

Thanks for the additional context.

I'm aware that some merchants can use Dropbox to upload images. However, I'm not sure about using Dropbox for selling and processing digital goods as they don't seem to be integrated with Shopify in that way.

That being said, our Digital Downloads app is completely free to use and Shopify can provide the file hosting for your files. However, there is a file size limit of 5 GB. If your file sizes are larger than 5 GB, then you may need to explore a different third-party app for digital products.

Let me know if you have any other questions!
