I'd like to show tax percentage and separate tax into province/federal tax in my checkout and payment pages but can't figure out how to do it, any ideas please ? Like in the picture below I'd like to add two separate rows 'Province tax name (x%)' and 'Federal tax name (y%)' before 'Taxes'
Hi @Dasatgeer_Khan,
Thank you for reaching out. Can you please confirm which country you are based in, please?
It is not currently possible to change how taxes are displayed at checkout on your store. However, if you use the Order Printer app to generate invoices for your customers, you should be able to amend the template to include a breakdown of the different tax rates and then send this to the customer.
If this isn't something you feel you can do yourself, you can look into hiring a Shopify Expert to make this change for you.

Hello Victor, I have the exact same question and I am based in the USA. I work on a Vaping Company and we even have excise taxes in some states and I can't find a way to accomplish that with Shopify. I am afraid that I will need to change our 4 stores from your platform to follow the law.
Hi @jess-macedo,
Thank you for getting in touch. Can you tell me exactly what you are looking for? Do you need to display a breakdown of each tax being applied at checkout? What information are you currently missing?

Hello Victor,
Yes, that is exactly what I need. Until now I didn't find a way to add this on my checkout.
Hi @jess-macedo,
Okay, thank you. Is the issue related to the excise tax not being applied at all? Or is it a case that the tax is being applied, but it is not shown (or is not listed separately) at checkout?

Hello Victor, the problem is that taxes are not listed separately. I contact many Shopify Experts and nobody wants to deal with that and for us, that is a big deal. I honestly need State Taxes and Excise Taxes on different lines. Thank you!
Hi @jess-macedo,
Right, thank you. I don't believe this will be possible. You can create tax overrides for specific products that would allow you to charge the correct taxes on a state level, but in this case the state taxes and excise taxes would appear as a single tax rate due to the override.
I can see why this is a disappointment and makes things difficult for your business, and I will be sure to pass your request onto our development team for their perusal.

Well, nearly two years on and no progress on this improvement? I am developing a store in CA with products that are subject to excise tax. Despite applying the correct taxonomy / categorization to my products, the excise taxes are not applied. I then applied an override using a custom collection but have no way to separate out the sales tax from the excise tax component on the checkout screen.
Here's why this matters. In California the sales tax rate is +/- 9%. The excise tax is +/- 12%. So I am showing my customers a +/- 21% tax at checkout that is simply labeled "Estimated Taxes". That is plainly insufficient and will deter a lot of customers who think we're trying to somehow inflate their pricing under the guise of additional taxes. Breaking these out into line items is a simple ask that will remove this friction.
It is disappointing that important requests like this don't properly bubble up from this forum to Shopify's development priorities. It's a lack of visibility on failures like this that pushes customers to other solutions.
Hi @tempoconsulting,
Thanks for reaching out to the Community. I'd be happy to provide some assistance with sales tax, to ensure this gets resolved.
While I can understand the importance of this feature, it is currently a limitation. With that being said, I will go ahead and pass this feedback along to our Developers. We're always looking for ways to improve the platform and appreciate your suggestion. To learn more about setting up taxes, I'd encourage you to check out our Sales Tax (https://shopify.link/0W8K) documentation!

Thanks for the reply and for offering to pass this feedback on. As I mentioned, seeing as the OP is over two years old, it certainly doesn't seem like the mechanism for "passing feedback on" is all that effective. 😉 Also not sure why the link you provided goes to tax setup information for Japan?
FWIW I have another post regarding a related issue where I've been unable to get excise tax to apply at checkout despite configuring the correct product taxonomy for my store. Would be happy to share details / access on that thread. I ended up going with a tax override and just configuring a combined amount of tax for CA sales and excise tax. Not ideal, but I was not getting support. BTW I have signed up as a partner, is there any better support available for partners? Dumping questions into the community boards and hoping someone replies is not exactly encouraging either.
Hey, @tempoconsulting.
Thank you for following up.
The guide shared by Blair should take you to all of our resources on Taxes and you should see information for different regions. That being said, if you're looking for account-specific support for your Shopify Partners account, then you can get in touch with us here: Contact Shopify Partner Support.
Let us know if you have any questions!
