Hi,
I'm looking for some help. I have approximately 1000 items on my store which are showing as ''You need to add a gtin or mpn'' BUT the products have barcodes. I have tried fixing in numerous ways, but the error always comes back.
Any ideas of how to fix once and for all?
I have attached a screenshot of 1 item as an example to show that it has a barcode in Shopify and the item in question has the error ''You need to add a gtin or mpn''
Thanks in advance for your help!
Donna
Hi @Percys
Basically edit the fields and set those products as Custom products.
Hi,
They have barcodes, so I don't think they need to be marked as custom? But I will try out the other suggestion and see if this works!
Thanks
Hi @Percys
Thanks for reaching out to the Shopify Community. I hope your day is going well!
A common, and understandable misconception is that a barcode will suffice for a GTIN. However, in order for this to be, the barcode must be internationally recognized. It can't be a store created barcode. If your barcode is internationally recognized, then you can move on to the next potential scenario.
Looking at your screenshot, I can see your barcode is added in your product inventory section, however it might not have translated to your Google Channel product information. To check this, head to the top of the product in Shopify and select More Actions > Google Fields and make sure the GTIN is applied.
I hope this helps! While working to resolve this you can still post to other marketing channels like Facebook and Instagram. If you're just starting out, make sure to check out Facebook Ads for Beginners which is a free course we offer over at Shopify Learn!
Hi,
I did look to try your suggestion for this particular item and within the product page navigated to More Actions > Google Fields and make sure the GTIN is applied however I couldn't see where to add this information, as it only appears to ask whether the item it custom etc...
Hi, @Percys
It looks like the product was previously tagged as a Custom Product and then deselected to add the GTIN. Please deselect the Custom Product and save the changes and exit the screen. You should be able to then head back into the Google Fields and add the GTIN.
Hi Donna,
Head to the Google Shopify app. On the Overview page, click on "Manage Availability".
A bulk editor pops up. Under the column "Custom Product", set the products that have barcodes to false.
After you save the changes, the app should send the barcodes (GTIN) over to Google Merchant.
Cheers,
Clarice
