How to Point a Custom Website to My Shopify Store (example.myshopify.com)

Hello Shopify Community!

I have a Shopify store hosted at example.myshopify.com and a custom website with its own domain at example.com. I've been wondering if it's possible to point my custom website to my Shopify store's URL (example.myshopify.com). I want to keep the same domain (example.com) for my custom website, but have it display the content from my Shopify store.

Is this something that can be done, and if so, how can I achieve it? I'd greatly appreciate any guidance or instructions on how to make this happen.

Here are some specific details about my setup:

  • My Shopify store: example.myshopify.com
  • My custom website: example.com

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Hi @Unknown_Dev,

Your custom domain cannot point to your own website while simultaneously displaying content from your store; it would need to be one or the other. Can you explain in more detail why are you looking for this setup? Are you looking for your Shopify site to act as the store for your custom website on another platform?

Hi @Victor
Thanks for the response

I have a fully functional e-commerce website built using Shopify's storefront technology. This website allows me to sell products and manage my online store efficiently. However, by default, Shopify provides users with a subdomain like example.myshopify.com, where their online store can be accessed.

In my case, I don't want to use the default Shopify subdomain (example.myshopify.com) as the primary web address for my online store. Instead, I want to make my own website, which is built using Shopify's storefront, the main destination for visitors. This means that when customers enter my store's URL or click on links that lead to example.myshopify.com, they will be automatically redirected to my custom shopping website, providing a seamless and branded experience for my customers.

Hi @Unknown_Dev,

Right, I see. Thank you for outlining your plan in more detail.

You can split the root domain (e.g. website.com) and the subdomain (example.website.com) between two different website platforms, with one pointing to your Shopify store and the other pointing to your custom website. This can be done by editing the values of the DNS records for your domain. The CNAME record controls where the subdomain is pointed.

Please note that the myshopify.com URL assigned to your store can only be attached to your Shopify store and nowhere else. The custom domain you own can be used wherever you wish.
