How to remove express checkout from Dawn theme on mobile?

Hello 
I am trying to remove the express check out buttons from Dawn theme (5.0).

Followed instructions here and it works if i visit the website on desktop, but not on mobile.

thank you, but i dont see a cart.liquid in Dawn theme. i've had another theme before and it worked, but since changing to Dawn i dont see where to edit?

I removed paypal express as a payment method altogether. but my preferred method would be to keep paypal as a payment method, but without the express checkout. So far I havent been able to find clear instructions?

I am having the same trouble. I would like to keep PayPal as an option but also want tor remove express checkout as I lose the email capture otherwise used for email marketing. Thanks

I asked Shopify design team to help, they customized the theme and it doesn't show up on pc/laptop/macbook anymore. however it still shows on mobile, which is not great. however they also ran out of ideas. they did recommend me to upgrade to 6.0 (currently using 5.0), however after you or your apps customize the theme, then the update function wont work and you have to reinstall and customize everything again. so i decided to keep it like this first. if you find a solution let me know too.

It is now possible to remove the Paypal express checkout (on the top of checkout), without having to deactivate Paypal on your store, but the caveat is that you will have to use an app that utilize Shopify Functions to remove the express checkout buttons, as since mid of 2022,  the liquid / CSS code to hide the checkout button does not work anymore. 

I have made an app to hide the Paypal Express (and other express checkout method like Apple Pay, Google Pay etc) on the top part of checkout page, and customer can still select Paypal method at the payment step.  

The app is made using native Shopify Functions, thus it does not affect your store existing layout or functionality at all. You don't need to be on Shopify Plus plan to use the app, your store can be on any Shopify Plan.

The app name is Yagi Express Payment Hider (https://apps.shopify.com/yagi-express-payment-hider)

The app also have a workaround which you can hide the express checkout buttons for returning customers with saved address, but you will need to create a placeholder shipping rate for it to work, this will also work with one-page checkout.

You can remove the express checkout buttons from the Dawn theme on mobile using the PayRules: Hide Payment Methods app. Here's how you can do it:

1. Open the PayRules app.
2. Navigate to the "PayPal Express Checkout" section.
3. Enable the toggles to hide the PayPal express checkout buttons.

This will remove the express checkout buttons from the Dawn theme on mobile.
