I'm using the Brooklyn theme for my website. But when I want to check out and get to my customer information page it says that shipping yet has to been calculated in next step (even though it's free). I've been trying to delete code but cannot get any change in the page. Does anyone have an idea?
Checkout process i.e. the individual steps and pages as you proceed through a checkout, cannot be modified in Shopify unless you are on Shopify Plus plan.
The only exception to that are some visual customisations you can make (text colour, store logo etc), translation texts which also let you be more specific about the language and wording used in checkout, or slight modification via additional scriots in the checkout order summary (the last step upon completion).

Really good question, Karl is 100% right here though. The checkout page cannot be removed at all or code edited unless you are using the Shopify Plus plan. I completely see where you are coming from, but there are still uses to the checkout page such as the customer entering their address information for shipping but also down the line should you want to charge for shipping, you wouldn't have to go through the hassle of adding it back via the code.
As Karl also touched on, you can customize the checkout and style it/ brand it towards your brand by adding your logo, a background image and edit the colors plus more. Shopify has an information page going through all the different ways you can customize your checkout page which you can see here.

I'm a bit late, but I came across the same problem as you. Here is one possible solution:
Go to Topics> Actions> Edit Languages
Then go to Checkout & System and look for "Calculated in next step". Change it to "Free", "Free Shipping" or whatever you want.
It's a nice little trick to change things, even if you're not on shopify plus.
