How to return barcode in customer events (Custom Pixel, Javascript)

Within the docs https://shopify.dev/docs/api/pixels/customer-events#productvariant , I don't see any way to return the 'barcode' field in order to get a product's UPC/GTIN.

this field is available in the API as variant.barcode , but I can't seem to access it using the pixel. Not sure what I'm doing wrong or missing.

Any help would be appreciated!
