How to set up multiple style options for one product listing?

I am creating a listing that I need to have an option for the customer to select a second item of the same thing but different style.

 

Is there a way to set this up? Via an app maybe?

 

For context….

I sell ‘Letters from Santa’

when customers purchase a single letter they can select which style they want.

When a customer wants to purchase 2 or more letters they get them at a discounted price. How do I set this up in my listing given that the customer will more then likely want a different style.

Six general approaches with the decision factors being customer-messaging, channels, inventory mgmt, customer journey , a stores shopify plan, and cost.

 

  • Use discounts(buyXgetY) to reduce price of 2nd card in tandem with messaging on the store and product page, such as via the announcement bar or as a frontpage hero image, or the featured image for a product, etc. This approach can be the cheapest cleanest on the backend but may not convert well if work isn't done on theme/messaging so the listing isn't clear to customers in all channels before hitting checkout.
  • Make the number of items a variant option itself and mix the colors i.e. "2 cards - red & green" with the appropriate pricing. This means ONE line-item is added to the cart but your fulfillment will send two products. Simple presentation to customer across all channels but may cause backend inventory/fulfillment headaches. Almost always needs an app to sync inventory between these special variants to the normal stock. Can be good in some omni-channel situations where you need to present as a single product.
  • A one time theme customization on the product description page(PDP) ,to present both products as one and add them both to the cart on one click   , or in the cart as an upsell; see shopifys gift wrap theme customization tutorial.  Two line-items are added to the cart but theme customizations can make them appear as one or someother design that indicates they are together. Note that the products will still display as individual line-items in the checkout process as that cannot be customized unless a stores plan is Shopify Plus.  Applies only to the online-sales channel.
  • A recurring cost bundling|kit|pack|upsell app. Also tier pricing or quantity breaks apps may apply.
  • If a stores plan is shopify Plus also use checkout scripts to discount items, or modify checkout to upsell the additional card.
  • Also see post-checkout apps to upsell the card later in the customer journey
