I’m running into a problem with my business website.
I have a domain linked to Pixieset which is a software for photographers (can use for your website, online gallery for photos, etc). I host my domain in Google and the domain is pointed at Pixieset for website.
Everything was working properly until I opened up my Shopify store. My Shopify store (& this was my mistake) I ended up connecting my domain automatically. This ended up messing with the original website and not showing up anymore.
I deleted my original website domain from Shopify and reverted back to the original Shopify domain that it had. The Shopify store is now with the original domain and the website domain back with it's regular DNS settings (In Google). They are back to original settings and Shopify store is working but my original domain is not working now.
I spoke with customer support at Pixieset and they said I have the correct settings on and everything is working fine on their end and also said my DNS custom records are written properly. So now, I'm thinking it's something to do with the back-end at Shopify.
Now, I spoke with a friend who's a programmer. He mentioned that "apparently Cloudflare works directly with the company (Shopify) to set stuff up in the background. So it's possible deleting your domain from Shopify didn't undo everything they have set up in the background."
Does anyone have any idea on what to do next?
If you have deleted your domain from Shopify and reverted back to the original settings in Google DNS, but your original domain is still not working, there are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:
Clear your DNS cache: Sometimes, your computer's DNS cache can hold outdated information. Clearing the cache can help fetch the latest DNS records. You can search online for instructions specific to your operating system on how to clear the DNS cache.
Double-check DNS settings: Verify that your domain's DNS settings in Google are correctly configured. Ensure that the necessary DNS records (such as A record or CNAME record) are pointing to the correct location (Pixieset in your case). You may want to compare the DNS settings with the instructions provided by Pixieset to ensure they match.
Check domain propagation: Domain changes can take some time to propagate across the internet. It's possible that the changes you made are still in the process of propagating. Give it some time (usually up to 24-48 hours) for the DNS changes to fully take effect.
Contact Shopify Support: Reach out to Shopify's support team and explain the situation. Provide them with all the relevant details and let them know that you have reverted back to the original settings in Google DNS but your domain is still not functioning properly. They should be able to investigate and assist you further.
Consider involving your domain registrar: If the issue persists, you can contact your domain registrar (the company where you purchased your domain) and explain the problem. They might be able to provide insights or further assistance in resolving the issue.
Revisit Cloudflare settings (if applicable): If you were using Cloudflare for your domain, you may want to check your Cloudflare account settings and ensure that they are correctly configured. Double-check if there are any conflicting settings or if Cloudflare is still active for your domain.
Hello @Raulito!
It sounds like you have taken all of the right steps so far in trying to disconnect the domain from Shopify.
Could you let me know, when did you make the changes to your DNS records so that they are no longer matching Shopify? When it comes to those records, any changes made to them can take 24-48 hours to propagate, which may be why you still haven't seen a change.
If it has been a while now, the next step that I recommend here is to get in touch with our support here so that we can have a closer look and check if we need to take steps on our end to fully disconnect it.
