ideal way to use meta fields in the case of more number of product types

This is the flow I have in my mind

1.   Define meta fields under default namespace
2.   Enter the values of appropriate fields while filling the product Page
3.   loop through the default namespace values if not empty print it on template/page

this works great, if the number of product types are less say 1 or 2. 

what if, need to maintain a site like amazon, in that case there would be many product types which in turn will have thousands of unique meta fields. isn't that difficult in selecting the appropriate meta fields while filing the product page. I even wonder how it effects the page render speed.

is there any efficient way to do it ? 

example scenario:

power adapter probable meta fields : input voltage, out voltage, output current

dog food: flavour, ingredients, and etc.

food items: ingredients, nutritional information, and etc
