I uploaded images that were like 2000px x 2000px, i.e. very large. When I view the image on my shopify store, it looks like Shopify resized it to 550x825px. Is that how it works? Will Shopify reduce the size of all images to a reasonable size to help with image loading speeds?

This is an accepted solution.
Yes, Shopify will automatically resize and compress images uploaded to your store to improve website performance and loading speeds. This is done to ensure that images are optimized for web display and do not take too long to load, which can negatively impact user experience and search engine optimization.
The specific dimensions to which Shopify will resize your images may vary depending on the theme you are using and the specific image placement on your website. However, in general, Shopify will resize images to the appropriate dimensions for their intended display location, while maintaining the aspect ratio of the original image.
If you want more control over the size and compression of your images, you can use an image editor to resize and optimize your images before uploading them to your Shopify store. This can help ensure that your images look great while also being optimized for web display and loading speed.
