Hey all, about to install a wholesale app for a client, but was wondering if there was a cheap/easy solution to this that wouldnt require a paid app.
I am curently using variant meta fields to do some dynamic/product customizations, I was wondering, if i create a custom variant field for a "wholesale" price, and in my liquid/price snippet i can filter for that variant price based on a customer tag and show the variant metafield price.
Are there any downsides to this? We only need basic functionality like this and nothing more (show a lower price for customers tagged wholesale).
Thanks!
Hi @1010101010,
This is Kate from PageFly - Landing page builder.
This approach of using custom variant fields and filtering prices based on customer tags may work as a low-cost and simple solution. However, there are a few downsides to consider:
It's worth considering if a paid app is a better solution in the long run. While it may require an upfront investment, it may provide more robust and reliable functionality, as well as better user experience for wholesale customers.
Hope my answer will help you.

Thanks for you response. We do individual pricing for products anyways, not a percentage discount, so it doesnt matter if we use a paid app or not, we have to manually enter pricing for our products.
We do not support bulk and or tiered discounts for whole salers.
Why would they need to do this? We already customize our collection pages to show all variants and not just products, so they can select the variant they want directly from there with their specified pricing, or go to the product page and pick their variant PDP product options.
In that case, using a custom variant field and filtering prices based on customer tags might be a feasible solution for you. As long as you ensure that all of your customers are tagged correctly, they should be able to see the correct prices without having to manually enter the variant option. This approach should also simplify the user experience, as customers can select the variant directly from the collection pages or product pages.
However, it's still important to keep in mind the downsides I mentioned earlier, such as the potential for incorrect data entry and the lack of other features that a paid app might provide. It's a good idea to regularly review and assess whether this approach continues to meet your needs as your business grows and evolves.
