You don't need to custom code to show collection at home page, you can add featured collection section on homepage and select your desired collection.

The standard way to show a collection on home page, is to add a new section. Usually, it is called "featured products" and allows you to choose the collection from which the products are picked. Depending on your theme, the section may be named differently (featured collection, etc.)

Every theme should have such a section. So unless you have an edge case, let us know, because liquid is not required for this.
