Hi,

Our webshop recently changed owner (same name, webadress etc). But from the day, the transfer became effective we started experincing a drop in the number of visitors and sales on the webshop.

How can that be? And how can we solve it?

Thanks for sharing. Even if your webshop name and URL stayed the same, a change in ownership can absolutely trigger shifts behind the scenes that impact traffic and sales.

Hi there, This is a really important issue and it’s actually more common than people expect when a store ownership transfer occurs.

Even though your domain, products, and design stayed the same, here’s what could be causing the drop:

  1. Google Ownership Revalidation: Re-verify ownership in Google Search Console and Analytics under the new Google account.
Resubmit your sitemap.xml and request indexing again
  2. Tracking or App Disconnect: Sometimes, Shopify apps like SEO tools, Facebook Pixel, or Google Ads get disconnected or paused during transfer. You should audit your installed apps and reconnect pixels, ads tracking, and SEO tools.
  3. Theme or Code Tweaks During Transfer: Do a theme audit for any recent edits and ensure SEO essentials (title, meta, alt tags, schema) are intact.

@MonitoDK After changing the store owner, the information on the backend will be updated also and this will lead to an inadequate result appearing for search engines like Google, and they shall take more time indexing and syncing the details again. Therefore, during this period, the traffic and sales will be affected. All you can do currently is to wait patiently and monitor the status all the time.

Next time, before doing fully preparation, do not change store owner information or other crucial parts too easily, and it will affect your store conversion as well extremely. A kind reminder here for your reference!
