Manage MX (Mail Exchange) records - G-Workspace

Hello all,

I am trying to set up the MX records for Google Workspace email but am having major issues. I bought my domain from Shopify but just can't work it out. I have attempted to follow the instruction here but the records I'm supposed to add don't correspond with fields on Shopify. Could anyone help? Also, at the risk of sounding stupid, what is the purpose of adding MX records?
