Manually Select Collections (Not Individual Items) As Related Products

Hi there,

I'm using DAWN.  I'd like to be able to specify which collection to display as related/recommended products on the product page, however I need the collection to be different for each product. So ideally, as I add a product to the catalogue, I could select a collection (or tag, if that's easier to set up) that will recommend products automatically only from that collection (or tag).

I tried to configure product metafield, but looks like I am not permitted.

Anyone can please help me? Thank you in advance.

Best Regards,

Tara

This is an accepted solution.

Yes, for future merchants, I am copying the steps from another person and it works really well for me.

1.) Go to Settings > Metafields. Click "Products" from the list.

2.) Click "Add Definition" button. Follow the screenshot in the solution above, and save. Be sure to tick the "storefronts" box under Access Options.

3.) Close tab and open theme editor, and select product page view from page template list.  Click to "Add Section".

4.) Select "Featured Collection", then click on it to open details. Scroll down to below Description Style to Collection, and click on the hamburger icon ("connect dynamic source") above "Select Collection" box.

5.) Your new metafield will be in the list. Select it and save the product page template.

  1. ) Open a product listing to edit it, and at the very bottom you'll see the Metafields section. Click on your field's name and select whichever collection you like.

@Tara123 to achieve this in the Dawn theme, you can use tags or metafields to specify a unique collection for related/recommended products for each product. When you add a product, assign a tag or metafield corresponding to the desired collection. Then, modify your theme's Liquid code to display related products based on these tags or metafields, filtering products from the specified collection only. This customization may require some advanced Liquid coding knowledge or the assistance of a Shopify developer.

Thanks for the quick reply. However, can you please help share the specific steps? Screenshots would be helpful. I don't have coding knowledge either.

Also as above attached screenshot, I'm not permmited to add product metafield definition.

I have figured it out by referencing to other person's discussions previously. Thanks.
