Hi Experts,
I have a technical question as follows:
If one day we need to cancel Shopify membership but we still keep the same domain/url, can we migrate all our customers' login info (say, username and password) and purchase history into our own server so that my customers still can use the same login info to log in our webpage and see their purchase history? Please don't give me wrong, Shopify is great, but just in case such situation happens.
Thanks a lot!

This is an accepted solution.
Take a look at the API docs if looking to do this programatically. You'll see options for things like customers, orders or transactions. Some data can also be exported directly from the Admin.
Customer passwords would not be something you could export (via Admin or API) - and thankfully so. If there was a simple way to get that data I'd have concerns over a platforms protection of sensitive data.

Thank you so much Jason!
If you decide to cancel your Shopify membership but wish to retain your customers' login information (username and password) and purchase history, you have a few options. However, it's important to note that directly migrating customer login information from Shopify to your own server might not be feasible due to security and privacy concerns.
Here are some alternative approaches to consider:
Export Customer Data: Before canceling your Shopify membership, you can export customer data, including email addresses, names, and other relevant information. This data can be used for communication and marketing purposes on your own server. However, you won't be able to export passwords due to security reasons.
Allow Customer Account Creation on Your Own Server: On your own server, you can implement a new customer account system where customers can create new accounts using their email addresses and set new passwords. This way, customers can log in to your new server-based system without the need to migrate their Shopify passwords.
Maintain Shopify Purchase History: If you decide to keep your Shopify store closed but want to retain access to customer purchase history, you can still log in to your Shopify account even after canceling your membership. Shopify will store customer data and purchase history for some time after the cancellation, allowing you to access it for reference.
Inform Customers About the Change: If you decide to move to your own server, it's essential to inform your customers about the change and guide them on creating new accounts on your new platform. Provide clear instructions and support to ensure a smooth transition for your customers.
As for the migration process, Cart2Cart specializes in transferring data between different e-commerce platforms, but it does not directly migrate customer passwords for security reasons. Instead, it focuses on moving products, customers, orders, and other relevant data between platforms.
When making significant changes to your e-commerce setup, such as canceling Shopify and migrating to your own server, it's crucial to communicate with your customers, ensure data privacy, and provide a seamless experience during the transition. Implementing a robust and secure customer account system on your own server will allow your customers to log in, view their purchase history, and continue engaging with your brand without compromising their sensitive information.
