Hi!
I'm selling my digital art and I don't know how to make multiple options? So fx when you're ordering a poster but want in a different color, right, like when you're ordering cloth. Color options. HOW?
Haha, I feel a bit lost.
Hi!
Great question! Today you can do this by first creating the variants for the color options in Shopify and then add the artwork inside of Gelato.
Here is a step by step:
1. Go to your product in Shopify. Add the variants that you need. Let's take the example you want to add color options for a poster.
Create the variant option of Color. then create the variant colors needed. In my case I will add 3 colors: Green, Blue and Yellow.
After adding more colors it looks like this
2. Log into Gelato dashboard (https://dashboard.gelato.com)
Go to https://dashboard.gelato.com/stores and select your Shopify store.
Click Sync products
Wait until the products have been synced. Your product with the new variants is now in the system.
3. Connect each variant to Gelato
In my case I have already connected the first variant - the green one to Gelato.
So I need only to add the other 2. Click on connect and choose the product you want to use and upload the right artwork. Repeat for each variant.
4. You are done!
Now you can sell color options for your product.
Let me know if you have any more questions. Happy to help.
Best regards

Hi there,
I tried this workaround for colour variations for a poster, but it didn't work out for me because I don't know what to write in the SKU-field.
Can you help me out?
Thank you
Hello @gelato-sh I have the same question as @HERZETTE posted a few months ago:
- When you create variants on Shopify, you have to give each one of them a SKU; what are you supposed to insert there, so that it still works with Gelato?
Thank you,
Denis
You can add any SKU you want. Gelato's system doesn't use the Shopify SKU but instead the Shopify internal identifier (called Variant ID). This way you can set your SKU to have any name you want.
Once you have setup your variants in Shopify with any SKU names you want, then you can follow the instructions in the previous post from me in this thread to connect each variant.
Let me know if any questions

Hi @gelato-sh, thank you very much for your reply!
I was able to connect the new variants, but the images of the variants were not sent to Shopify 😞
So on Gelato I have all the variants with the correspondent images, but they are not synchronised with Shopify (or not even uploaded).
Do I also have to manually upload the images of each of the variants to Shopify? How do I get the correct image from each variant from Gelato?
Hi @dvbf
Good to hear that you managed to connect the variants.
When connecting a product we do not update the images that you have in Shopify. The reason for it is to not risk removing images you already have there for example.
Right now you would need to add the images to the variants manually at the moment.
We will look at how this could be improved and when that could be on the roadmap.
All the best

Hi Styrbjörn,
I got a question the other way around. I create products in Gelato and transfer them to my Shopify store. Once done I see the Gelato SKU's are transfered to my Shopify too. Can I use them to transfer my products from my Shopify to Etsy, Amazon, etc? Or do I need to generate new SKU's? And if so, what happens to the Gelato SKU's? Do I loose connection with Gelato? At this stage I am not creating SKU's myself in Shopify, and integrated both via the Gelato Shopify app.
Thank you in advance!!
Hi @Yourinthe
Thank you for asking the question.
You may use the same SKUs for pushing those products to other eCommerce platforms from your Shopify store. As long as those are not changed, no connection will be lost between Gelato and Shopify.
We assume that you’re using some 3rd party Shopify app and once you receive the order on those platforms it is imported into Shopify and then send to Gelato.
