multiple ImageSrc for one product/ data optimization

I have a question about the products table .   in an export I have two rows for each product, the second row being only the Handle and the ImageSrc and ImagePosition (2); so it's obvious its done to use multiple images, but my question is is this maybe a wrong  way to do this ? I just got on this project, but is there a better way then making a whole database row just for an image? Or is this fine acceptable practice in shopify ? Please advise.
