Must sales channel apps be embedded within the Shopify admin?

Hi, 

We are building a sales channel app that connects to a local marketplace. Must it be embedded within the Shopify Admin, or can it be a a stand-alone app to which the user is redirected?

According to our app configuration it says that it is embedded, but I can't find a way to switch that off

Any suggestions or pointers?

Did you find any solution to disable embedded app? I do not find any other resources or forums answering this question!
