My shop converts unavailable sizes to "S" on orders!

Several customers have complained that they ordered specific sizes (other than S) and, by the time the order is made, it turns the [unavailable] size to S.

Why is this happening? I've been using this theme (Narrative) for years, now. Only started happening for a few months, now.

Please help.
