Online store open and close

Hi!

Our Shopify website was created by a third-party. When it was created, shop open and close times were embedded into the theme code. We want to change these times. Or, we want to remove this from the code so that we can add an app to open and close our store. How can we do this?

We spoke with Edgar from Shopify and he confirmed that we don't have an app and that the open and close times are embedded in the theme code.

Thank you!

Hi @GooseCreek 👋 For a situation like this someone has to do the work of finding the custom code as every theme and implementation vary wildly.

If you need this debugged, or customized to improve your ability to control the times then contact me by my email for services.

FYIs for implementing store close open timers aka hours of operation:

  • hours of operation generally need an external reliable source of truth for the time of day:
  • frontend based javascript times are fragile and can be inaccurate as they use the customers/clients browser time which could be wrong making the store seem open closed when it's not
  • liquid based times are fragile as themes are subject to caching so one person may get a different copy of the theme with a different time from the server than other people, etc.
  • shopifys free shopify flow app could be setup to help more accurately control hours of operation for the online-sales channel theme using shop level metafields in tandem with theme customizations, or more advanced switch themes using the advanced send-admin-api-request action, etc.
