Please Help - Add customise text field option to product pages

Hi! 
I am trying to add a custom text box to my product pages to enable customers to add personalisations to their orders. 
I have searched and followed videos and suggestions but every time I go to add coding as suggested I am unable to find the code where I need to input it, with nothing alike it either. 
Does the shop need to be published/live before I can add this? `

If anyone is able to help I'd be much appreciated.

5. Find the section of code where you want to add the custom text field. This will usually be in the area where the product options are displayed.
6. Add the following code to create a custom text field:

Note that you can customize the label and ID attributes to match your preferences.

• Regarding your question about whether your shop needs to be published/live before adding this customization, the answer is no. You can make changes to your store and customize it as much as you want before publishing it live. However, keep in mind that customers won't be able to see the changes until your store is published. You can use the "Preview" feature in the theme editor to see how the changes will look before publishing.

  Save your changes and preview your product page to see the custom text field in action.

when i add custom fields the info is shown in cart as well as in checkout page but when i create an order the information is not shown there. Can anyone help with that
