"Something went wrong, please try again" from productSet bulk mutation

Hello there,

I am trying to get some help to diagnose an issue that's constantly happening in our integration.

We integrate with Shopify using the GraphQL API version 2024-07 and we use the productSet bulk mutation to sync listings from our database to Shopify.

Often times, when we make a bulk mutation request to create listings Shopify responds with some listings marked as failed. The userError is `Something went wrong, please try again`.

This is very strange and hard to troubleshoot because:
1. It's an intermittent behavior
2. The error is very generic and it’s hard to know what went wrong
3. If I retry the request with the exact same data it works
4. When we fetch the listings in the shop the listings that “failed” with the error above were actually created in Shopify and apparently have no errors. I can see they have an ID and the correct status.

Is this happening to anything else and if so, do you have any ideas of what could be wrong?

UPDATE:

It seems that the failures happen only when we specify mediaIds within the productSet and mostly happen when the products are getting created. If no mediaIds is specified then all products are created correctly.

To create media records we use the mutation https://shopify.dev/docs/api/admin-graphql/2024-07/mutations/fileCreate. We create multiple media records at once and use the returned IDs as mediaIds.

The media records have fileStatus=READY though. Could it be that images are still being processed even tho the returned status is ready?

All the products I am sending are the same except for the handle and the mediaIds.

Does anyone see something wrong with it?
