Recommendated products based on custom metadata field

Hi Shopify community,

I am trying to add a recommended product section on a product's page based on one custom field's current value.

Basically, filter out all products by this custom field where the value of this custom field is the same as the one of the products on the page we're on now. 

Is that possible by editing to your product-template.liquid? I know we can do it with tags, although I'm not sure it can be dynamic data for tags either.
