Removing Unused Customer Tags From Menu

I retagged our customers in a new format as we had batch imported them in groups. We had like 20 groups as a result. I consolidated them, but the unused tags are still there. How can I remove them?

Once the tag is no longer in use it won't show anymore. Are you sure they tag is not longer used? Double check by filtering the customer list by that tag.
There can be a small delay before the tag list is updated but if it has sat like that for a while you may need the support team to assist.

I know they should go away, but they are not... No items have those tags, yet they remain. I'll call Shopify Support. Thanks for your help!

You need to un-tag them by clicking on the star symbol.

Running into the same problem -- this is a major issue for my store. This makes customer tags far less useful. There has got to be a way to delete them from the store...
