Hi there, we've recently migrated over to Shopify from a different platform, and the biggest problem we're facing is the limitations we have because we don't have Shopify Payments. Unfortunately, it isn't available in Romania, so we are using stripe. As Europe is our primary market, we really need to be able to offer at least 2-3 currencies, and we can't, and using an app to only display a different currency that isn't carried over to the checkout page is pointless. Is it possible to set up multiple currencies with stripe as the payment processor now or hopefully in the future? It seems really bad to have to create multiple Shopify stores in order to only change the default currency of the store.
Hey @GabrielBabus,
Thank you for reaching out to the Community! I can completely understand how the limitation of selling and shopping in local currencies is not ideal, but can assure we are exploring new regions to launch Shopify Payments in.
As Romania is not currently one of the countries available for Shopify Payments, I am more than happy to make this recommendation to our Developers. Your feedback is important to us and are always looking for ways to improve the platform. In addition to this, the more feedback we receive the more likely it is to be added within the future! While this is not a guarantee and am unable to provide a time frame, we are actively working to expand Shopify Payments as much as possible.
Moving forward however, you can look to continuing selling in Multiple Currencies as the workaround with Stripe, which will allow customers to browse and shop in their preferred currency. This will ultimately lead customers to checking out in the shops default currency as you mentioned, but can ensure the pricing reflected correctly.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Hey Blair, thank you very much for your reply. I'm not sure if I understand what you're saying about the Stripe workaround. I've clicked on the link, but I see that it only applies to Shopify Payments? Am I missing something? I wasn't aware that there's a workaround with Stripe.
Also, thank you for sharing my feedback, it'd be awesome to be able to access Shopify Payments in the future.
Hey @GabrielBabus,
To provide some clarification here, using the Multiple Currencies workaround includes the addition of an app available on our Shopify App Store to allow for browsing and viewing currency in customers preferred choice.
It seems however, you have already done this for the shop but can check out a few apps just in case:
Your feedback is truly appreciated and hope Shopify Payments can expand to your region in the future as well! Please let me know if you have any other questions at all.

Thanks for the suggestion, but as i've mentioned, if we can't show the currency at checkout as well, it's not something we can add, as it's just confusing for the customer, so we are better off without converting at all.
So as of right now, you can only really sell in multiple currencies with shopify payments, right? Stripe is not a payment provider you can do this with
Hey @GabrielBabus,
You are correct! To allow for customers to browse, pay, and received refunds in their local currency, Shopify Payments is required.
Please let me know if you have any other questions at all.

The same problem In India, there are a lot of people here who are stuck because of this issue, I really don't understand why shopify doesn't allow to checkout with multiple currencies, I have set up my whole store on shopify and just found out that I cannot offer other currencies to people internationally, Half the payment gateways in India which shopify allows you to integrate have paused onboarding, and the other half require gst number etc, shopify payments could benefit a lot of people in India coz literally 1/7th of the world is here, Kindly consider bringing shopify payments here or atleast allow us to offer multi currency checkout
I am also facing the same issue. I sell products from Poland and I am unable to get any support from Shopify or Stripe. Despite multiple attempts to contact them, I have not been able to get a resolution. This is ridiculous as I need to set the default currency to EUR but I am not able to sell in other EU currencies.
Can you please explain in detail what the workaround is? Perhaps with Stripe, we can learn something new.
I do not consider waiting for Shopify Payments in Poland as a viable option as it has already been a few years since the initial post and nothing has changed in Poland at the moment. I look forward to hearing from you guys on how to resolve this basic functionality issue.
I'm referring to your sentence, "the more feedback we receive the more likely it is to be added within the future": Same problem here in Switzerland. If an online store sells in Switzerland, it has to show the price in Swiss Francs (or give the option to). I guess this practice applies to other countries as well. So as a Swiss, I cannot sell worldwide or even in all of Europe because there is no option for multiple currencies and/or Shopify Payments other than paying for numerous websites. Thank you for your efforts.
Dear Blair,
same problem here in Norway! I was very excited about changing our platform to Shopify, as I heard so many great things about it. But not being able to sell in different currencies with our biggest market being in EUR is a total "no-go" to setting up our webshop with Shopify. So please add Norway to your countries eligible for Shopify payments!
Same problem here in Poland. Is there any plan for the near future to launch Shoppify Payments in Poland?
Here is another reply to this, asking that they add it in the future. same problem in Mexico.
I did however, opened a second store with all prices im USD, I opened a US bank account and I use Shopify payments, the only problem is that I get all those sales deposited in that Bank account.
Thanks
Hello, I am having this same issue of not being able to show customers the converted prices on the checkout page. Why is this checkout page so exclusive to Shopify payments. I feel that the checkout page should be able to be integrated with multi currency as this is a feature that seems almost basic. Its available to Shopify Payments only, however we are paying for markets through the advanced version and cannot even access the area to change just this part due to it being linked the Shopify Payments. I would suggest separating the markets and payments features so that we can utilize just the markets area of converting prices. Even more so, we are utilizing a third party payment gateway, so why are we not able to utilize the markets feature.
Hello, I have the same problem
In Slovakia Shopify payments are not supported but we are using shopify markets. Currently operating in 3 countries we need a solution that can show local currency for each markets in checkout, otherwise this system is not usable to us.
Any solution inc. regarding this?
This is getting ridiculous, it's almost 2025 and still multiple currency available only on Shopify payments, and Shopify payments only available in a few countries.. it's ridiculous, you guys are also missing on a lot of customers, it makes no sense just make Shopify payments available everywhere where Stripe is available... Or just make multiple currency available for Stripe users...
I would love to use Shopify but I don't because of exactly this issue..
