Shopify API Daily Variation Limit Of 1000 Variants

Hello Shopify Community,

I’m encountering a significant challenge while migrating my business from Amazon to Shopify and am eager to gather insights or advice from others who might have faced similar issues.

My business involves a complex product catalog, each with at least 10 colors, 7 sizes, and 2 fit types. Due to this extensive array of variants, I’ve hit a major roadblock with Shopify’s daily API variant limit of 1,000, which allows me to add only 7 new products per day. This restriction is severely impeding the speed and efficiency of my migration.

I am actively seeking any advice, strategies, or tools that could help manage or potentially circumvent this limit. Specifically, I’m wondering:

- Has anyone successfully negotiated an increase in this limit with Shopify?

- Is there any indication that Shopify plans to adjust or remove this limit in the near future?

Unfortunately, if I can’t find a viable solution, I may have to consider moving to another platform, despite having invested considerable time and resources in building up my Shopify store and developing custom software for this migration.

While I have been in touch with Shopify Support, they were unable to offer an increase or provide an alternative solution.

Any shared experiences, tips, or guidance would be immensely appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read and respond.

Best regards,

Erik

Shopify is increasing the product variant limit from 1,000 to 2,000. IMO therefore it would be pretty stupid to keep the daily limit at 1,000 once you reach 50k.

I am keeping my eye on the next Winter edition update which is usually in January. I have no insider info but I am hoping something will change.

They have to have some sort of limit on the smaller plans, it's costly to maintain large catalogs and new variant creation. People were uploading huge dropshipping catalogs. But there should be a balance. It hurts clothing stores the worst IMO.
