Should I register my Australian company on Shopify.com or Shopify.com.au?

Hi all!

We are an Australian based Pty Ltd company but vast majority of our customers are USA, then Europe and lastly Australia (maybe 5%). In terms of stock / product we either:

- ship direct from China internationally

- Fulfil through USA based 3PL

- Fulfil through Amazon (US marketplace)

- I.e. we keep no stock in Australia

Our store domains are .com. We are migrating from Woocommerce.

Re bank account, we have an Airwallex USD account linked to the Pty Ltd so would just likely transfer USD from Shopify to that account.

As majority of customers are USA we will continue to sell in USD regardless.

Do you know if there is a difference from any of following perspectives:
- where store is hosted (e.g. Australia vs USA or are they all hosted in USA with global CDN?)
- search engine ranking on google.com vs google.com.au

- etc.

Should we register our Shopify account through Shopify.com or Shopify.com.au?

And just to add, I notice when registering, the following question is asked:

Where will your business be located?

We’ll use your location to set up your default shipping rates, recommended apps, and more.

So...we are an Australian business but in practical terms we are primarily servicing USA customers, taking payment in USD, shipping from within USA etc. 

So do we choose Australia or United States for this question?

Hi @AndrewCal  sorry I don't have answers for you.. but your post is my EXACT question.  I notice you posted this back on 24/8 and so I wonder how you may have progressed.   I have an Australian Pty Ltd but sell entirely in the USA via Amazon.com (all inventory held by Amazon) - I want to expand a presence off Amazon and create shopify store to link to Amazon account so orders FBA.   Did you set up a shopify US account ?or do it from an Australian shopify store ?and create market places to list currency, shipping, link to Amazon.com etc Feeling stuck. thanks, Jackie.
