Discuss and resolve questions on Liquid, JavaScript, themes, sales channels, and site speed enhancements.
Hello Shopify Community,
I'm currently evaluating whether to upgrade from an Advanced Shopify plan to Shopify Plus, primarily focusing on the potential improvements in site speed. However, I haven't been able to find detailed comparisons that address this aspect specifically. If anyone has experience or data comparing the speed performance between Shopify and Shopify Plus, could you please share your findings? Your insights would be incredibly helpful in making an informed decision. Thank you in advance for your help!

Hello @GoMage-Andrii ,
When comparing the speed of Shopify and Shopify Plus, there are a few key considerations to understand how they differ in performance. Both platforms are built on the same core infrastructure, meaning their base-level speed and performance capabilities are quite similar. 70% to 80% of the performance depends on which theme and how many app's you are using. But there are some other extra features and Shopify Plus Optimizations that may positively influence speed and performance enhancement. Here's a breakdown of the main factors:
Infrastructure and Hosting
Even though both use the same server network powered by Shopify – which is also a globally distributed network – there are some key differences between the two. This implies that the way pages loads to the basic as well as the server response times are also similar on both the platforms.
Customization and Control
Shopify has very few customization opportunities and can be a bit restricting sometimes, but it keeps everything simple and lets you run smoothly without any hitches in performance.
The e-commerce platform for high growth merchants – Shopify Plus is more powerful and gives the user more control over the backend of the store and has more options for advanced customization and optimizations. This relates to better control over the checkout process which may be optimized by the speed and efficiency of the checkout.
Features and Apps
Shopify users tend to add numerous third-party applications in order to enrich the services, which, definitely, can influence site performance if it is not correctly configured.
One of the main reasons why choosing Shopify Plus over Shopify may be beneficial is the fact that it includes a lot of features that are available only as applications for Shopify. Moreover, Shopify Plus clients get access to Launchpad and Flow that permit automating processes and enhancing the functioning of the business – an approach that impacts performance enlargement.
API Access and Integrations
Shopify Plus can offer better API access and integration options. This enhances quick and effective manipulation of data and consequently leads to faster loading time and enhanced site responsiveness.
Traffic and Scalability
Shopify is good at working with small to medium businesses but it can easily become slow especially during peak times.
Shopify Plus is aimed at a more extensive customer base that includes larger enterprises with high traffic flow rates to achieve more consistent results during peak hours. This is particularly important in cases where the traffic on the website is high especially during promotional offers in the business.
