Liquid, JavaScript, themes, sales channels
Hi,
I've tried to change my page description on Google but without succes so far.
My page is https://zonnepaneelkoelbox.nl/
After a week or so it didn't change, and it's still like this (Dutch):
While it should be this:
"Op zoek naar een koelbox op zonne-energie? Heeft u al een koelbox en wilt u op zonne-energie koelen? Dan bent u hier bij het juiste adres. We verkopen kant-en-klare oplossingen en losse onderdelen. Weken, zelfs maanden koelen op de zon!"
I thought the problem was with google not indexing/crawling my homepage. So I've tried to do that, but then google gives me the feedback that my homepage is a redirect page and won't be indexed.
What to do? Am I on the right path or do I mis something here?
Thanks for your help in advandce.
Hi @Snors,
have you created domain property instead of URL-prefix property for your store in GSC? Have you requested crawling the page for your homepage with https:// ?
As for meta descriptions (and titles as well), it is a completely another thing. Google has announced that they may be rewriting the titles and meta descriptions so that they fit better to the specific search query. This means that even though your store is correctly crawled with the meta description you want to display, it may happen that the meta descriptions may look differently.
I wrote an article about this issue some time ago, you can learn more about it in this article: Writing titles and meta descriptions seems to be a waste of time. Right, Google?
Hope this helps! 🙂
Hi, @Snors!
Welcome to Shopify Community and thank you for sharing your question with our network.
Submitting an updated sitemap to Google is absolutely the right track to help you update your information on their search engines. As you may be aware, this does significantly increase the speed to have Google crawl and index your web pages and update their search results. While this process can still take a few days up to a few weeks, results can be expected sooner.
In your case it sounds like it may not be a matter of time if you were unsuccessful in submitting your updated information to Google. Can you please share a screenshot of the error with us here so we can better guide with next steps?
I look forward to your reply,

Hi Olivia,
See screenshots hereunder. Sorry for the Dutch, but coudn't get GSC to change language in time. I hope it's still clear for you. The first one is about my sitemap, which seems to work just fine. The second screenshot is a top down list of most common reasons of not indexing my site pages (first one is "page redirection) and the thrid one are some examples of the pages that can't be crawled.
Thanks in advance,
Sjors
Thank you so much for that added context, @Snors!
I am trying my best to follow along for what the issue may be and how we can help you amend it, though I am afraid I may not be understanding completely as I cannot understand the screenshots.
Are you able to do a local translate to English for me with your web browser? This is typically an available option within Google Chrome and can be accessed with these instructions.
If I had to guess what is going on without the translation then it appears as though the sitemaps were submitted successfully. In the last screenshot pages such as those with a 404 error are not being indexed - which is expected and normal behaviour.
If then everything was submitted and working as normal, then we are just waiting for Google to update their search results - can you confirm that is the case?
Warm regards,
