Unable to Reset Dawn Theme to Default

Unable to Reset Dawn Theme to Default

It was recommended that I reset my theme  to default as I no longer have a checkout section in my store due to custom changes.  I have duplicated the theme. When attempting to customize, the « undo » option is greyed out. What advice do you have to reset?

Thanks

Hey, @Vinochka.

Thanks for reaching out and bringing this to our attention.

If your theme contains custom coding or customizations, then the issue may fall outside the scope of our support. However, you can try rolling back to an earlier version of your theme. If rolling back the theme doesn't help resolve the issue, then we'd recommend installing a fresh copy of the Dawn theme to see if that can help resolve the issue. If you need further support with your theme, then we'd recommend getting in touch with Shopify through the Shopify Help Center and a Support advisor can assist you through live chats.

If you have any other questions on this topic, then don't hesitate to let us know.

PS This is the recommendation I was following:

 »

You seem to have customized or removed the Checkout section from your theme settings.

If your store is not live, try resetting the theme to its default settings and cross-check. If the store is live, ensure you duplicate the theme first, then reset and verify the changes. Once verified, you can set the restored theme as the live theme.

To restore default settings for your theme, go to Online Store > Themes in your Shopify admin. Find your theme, click Customize, then click the Undobutton to revert changes. Here is a guide from Shopify that might help you with this process.«

⚠️ chatbots based on chatgpt, or other LLMS, are incredibly inaccurate as they randomly generate the sequence of information they send.

Never use them for critical tasks in which you have no experience to rely on, as you will not be able to tell how much the generator is misrepresenting how to fix a very real problem.

Dear PaulNewton,

I am unclear as to what the reply is referring to regarding chatbots. Was
the response I received earlier from a chatbot?

Are you able to provide a solution for my original problem of not having
shipping option in my checkout? I removed it somehow and would like to
replace it.

This was my original question:

« I had removed the shipping option from my store and want to offer this
now. However, somehow I removed the option (button) for shipping or pick up
and cannot remember how I did this in order to reverse it. Also, although
I have set up shipping for Canada in the settings, there is no calculation
option showing on the checkout page. Help! »

Hi @Vinochka install a new copy https://themes.shopify.com/themes/dawn

The "default" theme is whatever was installed when the store was created, but it's no longer a default one it's been modified or customized.

👨‍💻To clarify there is no "reset to default", or "reset theme" as any single click action natively in shopify.

For non-asset theme files, files can be rolled back one by one

https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/online-store/themes/theme-structure/extend/edit-theme-code#roll-b...

For entire themes they would need to be either imported from a backup of the theme, or publish duplicate that was made BEFORE any changes.

https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/online-store/themes/adding-themes

https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/shopify-admin/duplicate-store (as of 2024-08 "theme backup" is a zip export/import process)

Advanced users of the github integration would revert commits or change branches, etc.
