we have an issue with referrals from different sales channels connected to Shopify like Facebook, Google Shopping & Pinterest. When we assign the products to the different channels in Shopify, they are automatically imported into the different accounts, but the link to our website is automatically assigned different UTM parameters. As far as this contains the parameter "variant=" this causes problems in the store.
Examples:
Pinterest: https://kuchentratsch.com/products/plaetzchenmischung?variant=43696048668936
The parameter always causes problems in the store if it is a product that has no variants. In this case, the product cannot be added to the shopping cart under the URL in question. If, on the other hand, it is a product with variants (such as Mini & Large), the variant in question can be ordered without any problems.
If I adjust the URL in the respective channel, for example in Facebook Commerce Manager, then this is usually overwritten again with the next update of the data feed from Shopify.
Therefore, the only solution I currently see is not to use Shopify for the channels, but to create the products manually in the respective channel. However, this would be very time-consuming.

Generally, an URL with or without a variant ID should not cause any issues with adding items to the basket, and it seems to me you have other issues that is causing this. I help around 250+ merchants each year. And I have never seen a variant id, stopping items getting added to the basket.
I recommend you reach out to your theme developer to find the cause of the issue. I'm pretty confident it's caused by broken coding.
