I'm wondering if there is an app or if anyone has thought of a solution for the following use case:
I am working on a site with both physical and digital products (supplements and workshops), and also a blog. This site ALSO has a series of video trainings and recipes that I would love to:
a) display in a grid such as the option for collections, with images on hover and
b) "tag" or "categorize" in order for users to find specific recipes/videos on certain topics
I haven't been able to find a good solution for either. I am currently using text columns with links/images to display as a grid, but it's clunky and there is no way to categorize or sort them, and no way to show a different image on hover. I understand that Shopify is geared towards e-commerce but it seems kind of crazy to not have a solution for this, not even an app that I can find. Any help is appreciated, thank you!
Hi @evelynp ,
First would like to say thanks for understanding the core concept of Shopify.
Now we would need more clarity on your requirement like how you want to show your video series and recipes and when and how and when(Action) these will affect your customer's account.
Thank you for your response. I want to be able to display the videos and recipes in a grid format (like a gallery of images) on a page, then be able to link that page to their navigation. They use Vantage theme and when a Collection of products is displayed this way, you can see the other product images on hover--would want to be able to do this, as well as allow the user to sort them by tag/category.
For now I've just displayed them using "text columns with image" sections to display as a grid
Is there any particular reason you are using pages instead of a blog?
Shopify allows you to have multiple blogs (a blog being a collection of blog articles), and each blog is independent from another. I imagine your problem would be very much solved once you moved all your page content to a blog?
Some helpful resources if you want to look further in this direction"
If blog is a no-go, you can probably still tinkle with code to create the grid display (or use an app like Storefolio, but it is very basic) and also try adding metafield to the page to implement the tag / categorization.
Thanks for this!
I'm honestly not sure why the client chose to do it this way--I did see that some of the recipes are on blog posts and some are not. With your app, would I be able to add a grid display (on a page) of only one tag, i.e. a page with a grid display of only blog posts tagged "recipe", and then add that page to the navigation bar? They use the theme Vantage and it only allows a list view of blog posts.
For now I've just displayed them using "text columns with image" sections to display as a grid
