Website font not displaying ™ symbol correctly. It's showing as a glyph.

I use 2 custom fonts on my website, one for headings and another for body text. 

When I insert the trademark symbol ™ in the heading font it displays correctly. But if I insert it into the body text it shows as a glyph.

I suspected the symbol wasn't included in the font so I had someone put it in and using a font viewer it's showing that the symbol is included in the file but my website is still showing it as a glyph.

Is there another possible reason for this and how can I correct this and all future instances where I want to use this symbol.
