Shopify suggests duplicating a product to save time when adding a new product.
We do this alot when we get new items in from a vendor. This gives us consistency on how we have 'classified' the product from that vendor, which is great.
However, when we do this, it also duplicates the BARCODE of the copied product. Barcodes are different for each product, so it would be preferrable for this coded NOT to be copied.
Can this be submitted as a request to the Shopify Tech team?
Thanks.

This was addressed sometime in 2020. Not sure when. But barcode, SKU and other items mentioned by the community were addressed
An afterthought....
in addition to barcode.... SKU is also duplicated. Probably should not be?
Have had this issue too. Is there an easy fix?
I have not heard back on this issue. Kind of frustrating....

It's certainly still a problem, so what did they do to address it? I dont know why this is listed as the accepted solution, it literally gives no solution.
When duplicating a product, the screen displayed after you hit 'duplicate' (where you enter the new title) now has checkboxes for what you want to duplicate. Barcode is on that screen. Double-check and make sure it is not checked. This was addressed last year and I have had no problems since.
