When using the discount Buy X and get Y free - I need the free item to come in on it's own line

When I setup a discount with Buy X and get Y for free I see the free item coming in but it's not on it's own line like other items.

For some reason Shopify isn't giving the free item it's own line item.

No idea why Shopify would choose to do this.

We're using Seller Cloud as our ERP and it's not picking up the free line item when the order comes in causing havok. My client cannot use this feature at all until we figure this out.

Shopify support chat was offline today for some reason so I have posted here instead. Any thoughts or workarounds appreciated.
