Why am I getting hundreds of visitors from India?

I am getting hundreds of visitors from India without any ads targeted there.  India has never been a country where I provide products or service to.  I am just building my website and its less than one month old so I haven't done any advertising other than Facebook page likes to Canada, USA, France and UK which was 2 weeks ago.  Today, with no ads up, I have 1 visitor from USA, 1 from Canada, 2 from UK and 127 from India.  Yesterday was similar.  Obvioulsly there is a bot issue.  Does shopify have any apps to block this? Facebook pixel and Pinterest Pixel will get destroyed and my intelligent advertising will be useless if this isn't fixed.  I'm reading about this Shopify issue online.

We are having the exact same problem. "Visits" from India are 3 times traffic from US and Canada and I won't even get into the number of countries in the world that have supposedly stopped by for all of 0 seconds. I've tried looking everywhere for solutions to this. There were suggestions about filtering and segmenting Google Analytics but this doesn't appear to be what is feeding the Shopify Analytics dashboard. You can filter your report for a hot second in the report section of Shopify Analytics but the only way you can save this is if you have Advanced Shopify ($300USD/month). So obviously this is absolutely skewing conversion results, which is sad because people will be throwing good money out the window thinking they're doing something wrong on their site because conversion is so low when it is simply fake traffic. So from what I can tell is there is nothing to be done, and it has been an issue in the community since 2015, unless you spend the big bucks which is ridiculous if you are just trying to get your business off the ground. There was thought that maybe one of the apps we had was driving the traffic because their pricing model is based on number of visitors (it's now off the site). We'll see if over time that makes a difference.

I'll keep an eye on this thread to see if there ever is a solution. If you figure something out, we'd love to know what it is.

We are having the SAME issue and it is driving us crazy. I don't understand why Shopify is not doing something about this, it is completely messing up my metrics!

Same exact issue but it’s April 2023 now and clearly @Shopify needs to address this. Can we block certain countries from accessing our shop? That’s the ideal solution. We have Pakistan and Iraq and India as the top 3 bot culprits.

I’m having the same problem. Lately, I’m seeing a lot of Ireland, India, Pakistan and Nigeria traffic. All of my ads are US based only!

Me too. We are experiencing massive visits from India. I contacted Shopify Support, and one of them told me that it was because of bot traffic. He said that there is no harm, however, it may cause a mislead traffic for your website

Same problem with site receiving tons of traffic from India, with literally no business or advertising there... and now it's July 2024! This is totally skewing our analytics and leaves me wondering what's going on here.... are all these bots really harmless?

Has Shopify helped in any way??  We are experiencing this as well . Worse is that they use our chat feature and are maxing out my chat plan monthly and so we have to upgrade plan because of these unwanted visits.

Shopify has really lost its way in supporting the small business’s that helped them grow.

Do something Shopify support!!

Hi there, @Maineflycompany. Thank you for taking the time to follow up on this thread!

I've gone ahead and flagged this thread for our Developers for their awareness, as it's clear that some users would benefit from having the ability to prevent storefront access from certain regions. I can't promise what may come as a result of sharing your feedback, but you can trust it's been brought to our Team for their awareness.

Though Shopify doesn't offer a native solution to this issue, there are several well-rated third party applications that you can add to your store to block access from specific regions. I recommend taking a look at this page from our App Store to explore the options available to you!

While I appreciate that there are apps, it should be something Shopify can handle for hundreds if not thousands of their customers. Continuing to send us away by using third party apps coming form the same regions we are trying to block is poor business.

Hopefully someone can actually help us without us having to spend even more money with another app.

And for the record the last few times I’ve been told the issue is going to a team and not to worry, I never heard anything back.

I’ll share this to the public forum so others can share their experiences with Shopify support via email as well.

Seems a common Shopify issue. You'd think they would have already gotten a fix for this. We had 891 visits from India - just TODAY. There are hundreds like this almost daily. Come on Shopify! There should definitely be more ways to prevent this instead of having to add and pay for an app since we are already paying for a website.
