Why am I seeing a 'connection not private' error on my website?

When trying to load website I am receiving the following error:

Your connection is not private

Attackers might be trying to steal your information from shoproryjames.com (for example, passwords, messages, or credit cards).

NET::ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID
ReloadHide advanced

shoproryjames.com normally uses encryption to protect your information. When Chrome tried to connect to shoproryjames.com this time, the website sent back unusual and incorrect credentials. This may happen when an attacker is trying to pretend to be shoproryjames.com, or a Wi-Fi sign-in screen has interrupted the connection. Your information is still secure because Chrome stopped the connection before any data was exchanged.

You cannot visit shoproryjames.com right now because the website uses HSTS. Network errors and attacks are usually temporary, so this page will probably work later.

How do I get this over to Shopify support @Shopify

Hi @ShopRoryJames,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community. I'm happy to provide some assistance with this request, to ensure it gets resolved.

The error you're seeing is likely due to the Let's Encrypt's root certificate being expired. Let's Encrypt is one of the world's largest providers of HTTPS certificates and is used across Shopify storefronts. Due to this, you will want to ensure that your devices are up-to-date to recognize the validity of that.

For ease, I've gone ahead and listed below a few proactive steps that you can take to help address any network issues that you might be encountering. These include:

  • Ensure your browser is fully updated: Shopify recommends using the latest version of Google Chrome.

  • . Clear your DNS cache (Windows, MacOS, Linux & Google Chrome): Assuming your browser has been updated, and the issue persists, the next troubleshooting step is clearing your DNS cache.

  • Ensure your computer operating system (OS) is fully updated: As a general best practice you should always ensure your OS is fully updated, and supported. If you are using Microsoft Windows, please ensure you are using a supported version of Windows, and apply any OS updates available.

  • Ensure your mobile phone and tablet operating systems are fully updated: Similar to your computer, you should always be using the latest version of the operating system provided for your mobile and tablet devices of choice.

If after completing the steps mentioned above, the error persists, please feel free to connect with us directly. This will allow our support team to investigate further as we wouldn't have access to any account details through the Community.

To connect, you can:

  • Head over to our Help Center
  • Enter into the chat box Contact Support.
  • Log into your shop.
  • Select one of the available support options.
