Why does my desktop website take 20+ seconds to load?

I'm having issues with my store load times

So my website on my phone loads completely fine, but on my desktop, it takes 20+ seconds to load.

All the images are small files (200kbs or less for the most part).

I made a bunch of changes to the code myself so it might not be completely optimised but even when I get rid of it temporarily it doesn't change anything.

I only have 2 apps, an Instagram slider, and a product page tab layout. I've seen plenty of other pages with them and I can't see how they would make my store take 20+ seconds to load.

And many websites like Pingdom say my store is great, and my Shopify speed score is 42, so not the best but not terrible either from my understanding.

Hoping someone can have a look at the store and maybe provide some solutions if possible.

If you wanted to have this sanity checked to know if others see the same results, consider posting your shop url.

How did you test the speed locally? Doing some rough second counts, the browser debug console, or a dedicated tool?

You have already gotten some really great tips on this thread, so I just wanted to add that store speed is down to factors that we can control, and others that we cannot.

Often it can be related to the code in areas where you might not notice it, and if it does not improve after you have taken the steps as suggested here yourself, I recommend you look into working on this with a Shopify Expert. Shopify Experts are people who work externally to Shopify and charge their rates based on the work that they do. They would be able to get into the more technical side of the issue with you.

I tried to take a look at your store myself but the URL you provided does not seem to bring me there - are you sure you spelt it correctly? Please do review it and share it again if you would like me to take a look and give you some additional advice.

Make sure you are following the below steps, which can significantly speed up your Shopify store:

1. Removing unused app code is a best practice that avoids running code for unused features, and makes your theme code easier to read.
2. Avoid unnecessary redirects and fix broken links
3. Themes contain CSS, JS, HTML which can increase and affect your store speed. So disable theme features you don't use.
4. Loading extra data your customers aren't using can impact your store speed without adding value.
5. If you are using slideshows, keep slideshows of featured images to 2-3 slides, or use one featured image.
6. Use a System font which is a font that is already installed on most computers. For example: Segoe UI, Times New Roman. If you use a font that does not yet exist on your customer's computer, then the font has to be downloaded before your text can be displayed. This impacts the time that your store takes to load.
7. Reduce the use of large-sized images and also compress images without losing the quality
8. Use minified CSS and JS files
9. Replace GIFs with static images

@Pior 20 seconds is a long time, there's definitely something going on there.

42 score on the Shopify speed tool isn't bad, that score is based on Google PSI, it's not geared well for ecommerce sites with apps and interactive functionality. If you want to learn about load speed / tools, etc in the context of Shopify check this guide: https://speedboostr.com/understanding-load-speed-on-shopify/

I tried your url krpjewellery.com and the site didn't load at all. If that's the correct url, you may have a problem with your DNS settings. Contact your domain provider to check into that.

If it's a different url, try running it through the Shopify Analyzer, that's an analysis tool specifically for Shopify that my team built free for the Shopify community. It will tell you the key points of optimization issues + how to fix them.
