Why does my new store's theme editing page fail to load?

Basically a new store, first time, have not done anything nor did I install any apps.

trying to edit the theme and I receive the message 

Failed to load the page

This page is not compatible with the editor due to one of the following issues:

• Page is redirecting to an unsupported URL
• Page failed to load due to an error

I could not find an answer...
