Why does my site retain old XML sitemap versions?

I use Content King to measure my website

but one confusing issue - multiple xml site maps from shopify - see below

Why does shopify keep the old versions? Why not just the latest site map?

My client's store has this issue too. Shopify doesn't allow us to edit the sitemap.

Never did receive a shopify response to this question
