Whenever I try to edit any of my themes I always get this error message every time. I have tried to search up how to fix it and I have tried every solution I have seen and it is coming up with the error. If anyone knows how to fix this please let me know asap as I am not able to edit my website and It is taking up time from my free trial.

Hi, @InfiniteJack.

Welcome to the Shopify Community! We hope you're enjoying the platform so far.

Could you advise if this error message pops up as soon as you click Online Store > Themes > Customize?

On the other hand, does it occur in the theme editor when clicking the dropdown menu?

Oftentimes, this issue shows up in the theme editor when the SSL on the primary domain has failed.  After you connect your domain to Shopify, it may take up to 48 hours for the TLS certificate to be issued. While this happens, an SSL failed error message will appear next to your domain. If the issue carries out past 48 hours, you'll need to adjust your DNS settings in your third-party domain provider account.

Below, I'll share steps to ensure your DNS settings match Shopify's records so your SSL moves out of a failed status.

  • In your third-party domain provider account, verify that your A record is: 23.227.38.65
  • Your CNAME record is: shops.myshopify.com
  • If you use an AAAA record, remove it.
  • If you have DNSSEC enabled for your domain, then disable it.

For more information on SSL errors, please read our enabling secure connections to your Shopify store resource.

Lastly, I wanted to say congratulations on starting your own Shopify store! You mentioned you're in the trial period and I'd love to hear what you're currently working on. While you build your store, it's helpful to keep our general checklist handy as it will ensure you've enabled your store settings, shipping rates, adding products and much more.

Let us know if the above steps have helped resolve your domain.

Hi Victoria,

Thank you so much for replying

The error message pops up as soon as I click Online Store > Themes > Customize

Also, I haven't added a third-party domain to my website so I don't know if I'm supposed to do what you said or not.

Lastly, I am currently working on my first dropshipping store that I am setting up with my friends but haven't been able to because of this

Hi, @InfiniteJack.

Thanks for your reply and advising that you have not connected a third-party domain.

It looks as though another issue may be causing this error message in your theme editor. In order to take a closer look at this, I recommend creating a support request in the Shopify Help Center. Our team will need to have access to your account and you'll need to be authenticated through the help center to do this.

Lastly, I wanted to share our Ultimate Guide to Dropshipping as you mentioned you are in the process of working on your first dropshipping store. Our guide can help you identify your target market, find the right suppliers and market your store.

I hope this information is helpful to you!
