Why an I and more importantly my customers keep getting this message.…

This page is temporarily unavailable because a device from your location is sending large amounts of web requests. Visitors from other locations can still view the page.

I just updated my theme. I never got this message before I upgraded. now I get is daily. I also get complaints from my customer for getting it too.

Hi, @MattSweitzer76.

Thanks for reaching out and posting to the Shopify community.

To get a bit more insight into the issue, could you share more information on the following:

  • Share your store URL so we can try to replicate the issue.
  • Are all customers seeing this error message?
  • What theme were you previously using and what theme are you currently using?
  • Does this issue happen when using a fresh Shopify theme

In the meantime, I'll share some local troubleshooting tips to see if the issue persists.

@PopGoesTheMonkey While I love the new store layout, I have to say that the Shopify anti-DDOS protection is extraordinarily overzealous. In the space of about 20 minutes, I was blocked from visiting the next page in a category 4 times. After the first block, I deliberately slowed my browsing to a crawl, with no change.

anti-DDOS??? I don't know what that means, but I think I know what you are talking about. it's those alerts about "request". If you know what's causing that please let me know. That never happened in my old template. it's driving me crazy too.

I'm referring to the 'you've made too many requests from this website' thing that blocks access for a few minutes. From what I can tell, it's based entirely on number of hits made from a given network over a period of time. The issue is that the number of hits required to trigger a block is far too low.

Thanks for all of this context, @MattSweitzer76.

This error message may present itself if Shopify has detected unusual activity coming from an IP address and has temporarily blocked incoming traffic from it to protect the stability of your website and our platform.

However, when navigating to your storefront on my end, I was not able to replicate this error message. I was able to click on each navigation menu item and product pages with no issues.

As an additional troubleshooting step, I would advise trying to access the platform again in a few minute's time, or from an alternative network source - like cellular data.

If you're still having this display issue on your end, I recommend navigating to the Shopify Help Center to create a support request. This will ensure your account is authenticated so our team can take a look at the backend of your website to troubleshoot effectively.

Hi, @sudh.

Thanks for joining the thread and sharing the error message you're seeing.

Are customers experiencing this issue when accessing your website? Are you able to share a link to your store, so we can try to replicate the error?

This error message may appear if we detect unusual activity coming from your IP address, possibly due to multiple devices on the same network visiting the storefront simultaneously or due to poor implementation of apps and event listeners.

To protect the stability of your website and our platform, we may have temporarily blocked incoming traffic from your IP address. This block should only last for a few minutes and then clear, allowing things to continue as normal.

If the issue persists, a potential workaround is to try accessing the platform again in a few minutes or from an alternative network source, such as cellular data.
