why does my website domain still say 'setup in progress' after a week?

I set up my custom domain to be the primary url last week, but in shopify it still says 'setup in progress'

when I go to my domain on my desktop, it comes up just fine. on mobile I can only pull it up on chrome. on safari it says 'safari cant open the page because the server cant be found.'

do i need to do anything else or does it really take that long for it to fully setup across all browsers?

my website is takehearttextiles.com

thanks in advance

Hi, @mackk!

Welcome to Shopify Community.

Thanks for sharing your question with our network. When looking at the publicly available DNS records for your domain, I can see that you only have an A record set up to point towards to Shopify.

In order to connect your third-party domain to your Shopify store, you need both the A record with Shopify's IP address and a CNAME record with the name www to shops.myshopify.com.To read more about the set up process and step by step instructions check out our domains help doc

That should resolve any issues you are having connecting your custom domain. Once it is successfully connected you will be able to further change it to your primary domain as well. Remember, once you make the latest changes you can still expect to wait up to 48 hours for the domain changes to propagate.

While we are here let me know if you have further questions about the launch of your store or increasing conversion.

Warm regards,

Thank you for the response!

im having trouble locating my cname record…can you possibly advise me on where else to look?

i originally purchased my domain through godaddy. Then I set up a website on wix and connected my godaddy domain to the wiz website. When I signed up for shopify, I transferred my domain from wix shopify. I called godaddy and they said they no longer have that domain on my account because it was transferred to wix. Now wix is saying the same thing about shopify. So basically, I have no record of a CNAME to bring into shopify because now shopify is my domain host. I’m so lost where else to look for the CNAME.

thank you

Thank you for your reply and the added explanation, @mackk.

I didn't realize that you had transferred the domain to Shopify, as when i checked the public records they appear to be hosted on Google Domains. If this was a recent transfer to host on Shopify, then it's important to note that can take 5-7 days on average to complete - even up to 2 weeks.

In the interest of time and considering your custom domain is not working as expected for your customers, I invite you to connect with our Live Team directly to troubleshoot this issue. That way, we will have direct access into your account and can better advise on next steps.

We look forward to connecting,

Hi again, @mackk!

I wanted to follow up with you to ensure you were able to resolve this issue, but also invite you to share the solution back with any of our future readers that come across this thread.

Based on what is publicly accessible, your domain appears to be working as expected. Let me know if that isn't the case or if you have further concerns.
