Hello

Noticed my checkout page was taking long to load. Ran it through GTMetrics and noticed that im getting a 404 for my favicon only on my checkout page. Did a little research and it seems like you cant add a favicon unless you are a shopify plus site. How can I either add a favicon or stop it from returning a 404? site is dispensarysupercenter.com

Hey @DS824,

Welcome to the Shopify Community. Thanks for letting us know about the Favicon 404 error on your checkout page.

Adding a favicon to your online store helps strengthen your brand and adds a polished look to your website although there is one limitation. The favicon is unable to be used on the checkout page of your store. This is because the checkout pages are hosted on our secure server, separate from what is used to display the rest of the site, before the checkout pages. All Shopify stores on standard plans experience this, and no custom Favicons can be used. As you mentioned, the only plan type that can customize checkout pages are Plus accounts.

I know this wasn't the answer you were looking for but that is the case in this situation.

When it comes to 404 errors, you have the option to set up a URL Redirection in Shopify. This will send any visitors of the missing page to a new URL of your choice:

Note: Only broken URLs should be redirected. Broken URLs might load a "page not found" placeholder message, or "404" might appear somewhere on the page or in the page title. If the URL still loads a valid webpage, then the URL redirect won't work.

As a side note, I love the work you've done on your website so far. Certain products like the Mylar & Child Resistant Bags stand out to me because of the great job you've done with the product images and description. Have you thought about who your target customer is for your website? Our blog post on Building a Buyer Persona talks about narrowing down who your ideal customer is. This process is good to go through so that you can get the most out of your marketing.

If you have additional questions about this please don't hesitate to let me know.

@Moira This needs to be addressed! Please add a lock icon for all stores urgently.

It is true that a favicon "strengthens your brand and adds a polished look". It is also true that its sudden disappearance "weakens your brand and adds a less polished look".
